History

The first show held in 1978 consisted of 12 cars and was held at the home of club member David MacKinnon. Pictured below are photos of the first Rod Run and show. An incorporated, non-profit organization, the Prince Edward Island Street Rod Association (PEISRA) is comprised of members who are dedicated to the modification, restoration, and preservation of street rod, antique, and special interest vehicles. This is the oldest and largest outdoor car show east of Montreal.

Past achievements of the PEISRA include:

  • Succesful bidder to Host the 1985 Canadian Mini-Nationals (mini-Nats) Show
  • Host the 1991 Canadian Street Rod National Show (CANATS) - it is worthy to note this was the first CANAT show to be held east of Ontario
  • Recipient of Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIPEI) 1991 Kings County Hospitality Award
  • Recipient of the Mayor's Award, Town of Montague, 2003

Morley Kemp Memorial Bursary

Morley KempThe Morley Kemp Memorial Bursary was established by the Prince Edward Island Street Rod Association in 1989 in memory of club member Morley Kemp.

An original member of the PEISRA, Morley was born and raised in Sturgeon, P.E.I. An active member of the club, Mr. Kemp passed away on June 16, 1988 and at that time held the position of President of the PEISRA. In addition, he held the following positions: 1980- Club President, 1984 - Vice President, and 1985 - President.

By trade, he was a fisherman and later, a tugboat captain, travelling over many parts of North America. He received his marine training at the Holland College Marine Center in Summerside.

Following his death, the PEI Street Rod Association decided to honor his memory and the contribution that he made to the Club by establishing the Morley Kemp Memorial Bursary. In keeping with Morley's love of the sea, this award is presented annually to a deserving student enrolled in a Holland College Marine program.

Each year during the PEI Show 'n Shine Awards Ceremony, the award for Best Street Rod Truck is presented in memory of Morley Kemp by Moore's Bird Sanctuary.
